Message yes it was an understatement. good

Agreed

i never said he was high pressure. just saying im sure he wouldnt reccommend a tire they dont sell. to me thats baised. and 'loud' is opinion. i still think its silly to base your purchase on one guys opinion.

He might not tell you which is the best tire for you if he doesn't sell that particular one, but he WILL tell you straight up if he can't sell you a tire that meets all your needs. That's the whole point of talking with him, he doesn't lie and he doesn't push his brands unless they really do suit your needs. Cool eh?

she has "'more experience' than most that feel the need to ask for tire opinions" means she has more experience than most people that need to ask for tire opinions. sound redundant? it is. simple terms - shes driven on more tires than most people. and a large percentage of those tires were on my z32. so, she has more z32 tire experience than most people that need to ask for tire opinions. but, youre right, she doesnt give a shit and probly wouldnt talk to you bout tires. but when someone asks her if she ever heard of such and such tire she replies with "ive driven on it". i count it as uncaring experience

I agree having ridden on so many different tires she's had more experience than most who have to ask which is a good tire. But for all her experience she hasn't picked up on the subtleties that I'm looking for when I call Luke. To me and you, we know different tires DO make a difference; to her "it's just rubber". And my whole point was: to Luke, (and to me, and probably to you too) they aren't all "just rubber"; and we can tell the difference. Further, Luke is a good resource because he can pick up the subtleties and has lots of experience evaluating tires.

i dont know where youre looking at tires then. almost every place by me is more than willing to beat tirerack prices, in fact they advertise it on thier boards outside! not meet, beat...and my shop stocked 245/45/16 so3s for awhile. i ordered them myself, but we still stocked them at one point. and why on earth would you wait till last minute to order tires? thats silly. if you cant wait a week...

In central Maryland I have honestly not found any place that can beat Tire Rack on Bridgestone tires; and trust me I've tried hard because I'm such a damn ‘economically savvy person’ (i.e. practically a cheapskate, except I’ll pay more for a better tire if I have to). I have found places that will beat TR on Yokos and other brands but I honestly don't know why they can't beat TR on Bridgestones. Shrug.

When I bought my car it came with brand new Nitto 450s, but all four were 215/55R16. That tire was terrible on the car, and the Z was brand new to me. I literally wanted the best tires I could get as soon as I could get them, so I could drive my Z the way Nissan intended an enthusiast to. After owning the Z for 2 years, I could (and would) wait a month now for new tires, as the anticipation isn't as high as when the car was new to me. Surely you remember how it felt to drive the Z the first couple of times; now imagine having to drive those first couple of times on tires so bad you were afraid to drive the car hard and test it’s capabilities (within legal limits of course)!

the average enthusiast *should* prefer a collective of opinions rather than one persons. if i knew nothing of tires i would rather see 10+ opinions than just asking one sales guy, regardless of how many hes tried. what if his idea of loud is way too loud for you? what if he can drive better in the rain than you, so "not too bad in the wet" for him is complete shit for you? with more than one person saying their piece, you can form your own conclusions and take an average if needed. for example, i dont think the t1s are loud are all. i know a few people that find them unbearable. that would have done them no good, right? if they only asked my opinion, they would have a 'loud' tire they didnt want. and the whole deal with kuhmos. a ton of people hate them, yet a large sum of people are happy with them. what if you called one person and he happened to love them? you get them, and you are one of the people that hate them. what now? if you asked a bunch of people, you would have gotten some negative feedback, which as anyone knows, is just as important to maknig a purchase as positive. if you dont consider the 'bad' points of anytihng before you buy, then whatever, good luck to you in life

I agree a collective opinion is best, if all of the parties had equal knowledge. All I meant was 3 opinions from persons who've only evaluated a handful of tires isn't worth as much as 1 opinion from someone who evaluates and sells tires for a living. Now, I agree the tt.net crowd is pretty well informed, and I do agree people should seek the opinion of others.

i dont say theyre better. in fact i like the s03s, i just dont like them as much as the toyos. they are better to me . if i was still working where i did and said flat out the toyos were better, im sure youd call me baised. i could get any tire, just maybe not as cheap as tirerack, and if you ask some people, i sent them there for those tires. but anyway, now that i dont have a connection for toyo i still think they are the best for me. nothing to do with what tire is better (so nobody starts with that crap)

Okay, cool there then. I still might try the Toyos, as you're not the first person I've heard who likes them. See, I'm evaluating a collective opinion. ; )

im simply trying to say that asking just ones persons opinion is stupid. you get one side of the story, thats it.

Agreed. I never said anyone should base their purchase solely on what Luke tells them. In fact I even stated after talking to Luke I still looked for better prices and better tires. I was simply stating that Luke has a significantly higher degree of experience and knowledge than the usual enthusiast in the subject and one can take his opinions to be worth a lot. And finally, that is the reason people call Luke.

Party On.
